🐾 Coco’s Spring Surprise

Spring break had been the best week ever.

Emily and Daniel had done everything fun: bike rides in the park, picnics under blooming trees, ice cream with rainbow sprinkles, and long afternoons playing fetch with their tiny, curly brown dog, Coco.

Coco was a teacup poodle with soft, bouncy curls, shiny brown fur, and bright, curious eyes. He loved every second of spring break—chasing bubbles, rolling in the grass, and barking happily at butterflies. One day, he even wore a tiny sunhat at the beach (though he shook it off right away).

But today felt different.

The sun still shone, and the birds were still singing, but there was a quiet feeling in the air.
Spring break was coming to an end.
Tomorrow was back to school.

Emily and Daniel weren’t sad exactly—but they were quiet. Daniel sat on the porch swing, slowly rocking back and forth. Emily leaned against the railing, watching Coco sniff around the backyard.

“I wish spring break could last forever,” Emily sighed.

“Yeah,” Daniel nodded. “It went by too fast.”

Coco paused mid-sniff. His little brown ears perked up. He looked at his humans, tilted his head, and then suddenly zipped across the yard like a fuzzy brown rocket.

“Where’s he going now?” Daniel asked.

“He’s definitely up to something,” Emily said, hopping down the steps.

The kids followed Coco as he raced to his favorite digging spot—under the old apple tree. With a few determined scratches, Coco began to dig, sending bits of soft dirt flying. Then he stopped and barked, tail wagging.

Emily knelt down beside him. “What is it, Coco?”

With a big doggy grin, Coco nudged something in the dirt with his nose.

Daniel leaned closer. “It’s a container!”

Emily carefully pulled it out. It was sealed with tape and covered in colorful stickers—including one that looked like Coco’s tiny paw print.

Inside were tiny treasures.

“Oh wow!” Emily said, opening the lid.

Daniel’s eyes went wide. “It’s a spring break treasure box!”

Inside were bits and pieces Coco had somehow collected all week:

  • A pink flower petal from the park

  • A mini seashell from the beach

  • A crumpled amusement park ticket (with a bite mark!)

  • A sticker from the ice cream shop

  • A tiny heart-shaped stick

  • And the best surprise: a small photo of Coco, Emily, and Daniel at the beach, smiling with chocolate ice cream all over their faces.

Daniel laughed. “How did he get this picture?”

Emily smiled. “He must’ve grabbed it from the table. Coco, you sneaky boy!”

Coco barked and gave a proud little hop. Then he snuggled between them, tail still wagging.

“He wanted us to remember all the fun,” Emily said, stroking his curly brown head.

Daniel nodded. “So we wouldn’t feel sad about school.”

They sat in the grass with Coco, looking through the tiny items again.

Then Daniel had an idea. “Let’s make a real memory box—and add to it every spring break!”

Emily’s eyes sparkled. “Yes! A Coco Collection!”

They ran inside and came back with a new container—bigger and labeled in bright letters:
“Spring Break Memories – Coco’s Collection 🐾”

They placed all the treasures inside carefully, then added a little note:
“Spring 2025 – Our best break ever! Thanks, Coco, for making it magical.”

Coco barked once, then gave a happy little sneeze and wagged his whole body.

They buried the box back in Coco’s special spot under the apple tree and placed a painted rock on top. It read:
“Coco’s Spring Spot – Dig Up Smiles Here!”

That night, while Emily and Daniel packed their school bags, they felt happy.

“Back to school tomorrow,” Daniel said.

“But Coco helped us keep the best parts forever,” Emily said, hugging their little brown pup.

Coco curled up in his bed, gave a sleepy wag of his tail, and drifted off to dream of next spring’s surprise.

The End!
