Listen to “Halloween – The Not-So-Scary Scarecrow” on Spreaker.
Once upon a time, in a little village nestled between rolling hills and golden fields, there lived a kind-hearted farmer named Joe. Farmer Joe was known for his lush crops and bountiful harvests, but there was one thing on his farm that was far from ordinary – his scarecrow.
Most scarecrows were meant to be fearsome and intimidating, with gnarled faces, tattered clothes, and straw sticking out in all directions. But Farmer Joe’s scarecrow was different. He had a warm, welcoming smile, a cheerful blue hat, and a heart full of kindness. Instead of scaring away the crows, he greeted them with a friendly wave.
The other farmers in the village couldn’t understand why Farmer Joe had such an unusual scarecrow. “It won’t protect your crops if it’s not scary!” they would say, shaking their heads.
But Farmer Joe had a different belief. He believed in the power of kindness, and he knew that even the crows had a place in the world. So, he treated them with respect and friendship.
One sunny morning, as Farmer Joe was tending to his fields, he noticed a group of crows perched on a nearby fence. They were cawing and flapping their wings in excitement.
“What’s all the commotion about?” Farmer Joe wondered aloud.
The crows, led by their wise old leader, Cornelius, flew down to the ground and surrounded Farmer Joe’s not-so-scary scarecrow.
“We’ve heard stories about your kindness, Farmer Joe,” Cornelius cawed, “and we’ve come to ask for your help.”
Farmer Joe knelt down, his eyes filled with curiosity. “What can I do for you, my feathered friends?”
Cornelius explained that their home, the nearby Crow Grove, was in trouble. The trees that had provided them shelter for generations were being cut down by lumberjacks. Their nests were being destroyed, and they had nowhere to go.
“I understand your plight,” Farmer Joe said sympathetically. “But what can I do to help?”
The crows had a plan. They knew that Farmer Joe’s scarecrow was special, and they believed it could scare away the lumberjacks. They asked if they could borrow the scarecrow to protect their home.
Farmer Joe thought for a moment. He cared deeply for the crows and couldn’t bear to see them suffer. Finally, he nodded and agreed to let them borrow his not-so-scary scarecrow.
The crows were overjoyed. They carried the scarecrow back to Crow Grove, placed it in the center, and stood guard around it.
Sure enough, when the lumberjacks arrived the next morning, they were met with the sight of the not-so-scary scarecrow. At first, they laughed, thinking it was a joke. But as they got closer, they felt an overwhelming sense of warmth and kindness emanating from the scarecrow.
They couldn’t bring themselves to harm it or the grove it protected. Instead, they turned around and left, leaving the Crow Grove untouched.
The crows returned the not-so-scary scarecrow to Farmer Joe, thanking him for his kindness and the protection he had provided. They promised to visit him often and help keep his fields free from pests.
From that day on, the village farmers realized that kindness was indeed a powerful force. They saw Farmer Joe’s fields flourishing, not because of a scary scarecrow, but because of a kind-hearted farmer and his not-so-scary scarecrow.
And so, Farmer Joe’s farm became a symbol of kindness and cooperation. People from all around came to see the not-so-scary scarecrow and learn the valuable lesson that it taught – that sometimes, the most powerful protection comes from a heart full of kindness.
The end!
