Listen to “Dragon Dreams – Episode 7 – Mysterious Summit” on Spreaker.
Alex and Emerald gazed up at the towering mountain before them. Its peak was hidden by swirling clouds, giving it an air of mystery. The villagers at the base had called it the “Mysterious Summit,” a place known for its unpredictable weather and ancient legends.
“They say no one’s been to the top and come back without a story,” Alex said, tightening the straps of his backpack.
Emerald chirped in agreement, its wings fluttering with excitement. Together, they began their climb.
The first part of the journey was steep but manageable. The path wound through dense forests, where the air was cool and filled with the earthy scent of moss. Birds chirped overhead, and occasionally, a squirrel darted across their path.
As they climbed higher, the trees thinned, replaced by jagged rocks and patches of grass. The wind grew stronger, howling around them like a warning.
“Stay close, Emerald,” Alex said, pulling his jacket tighter.
Midway up the mountain, they came across a strange sight. A stone archway, weathered by time, stood in the middle of the path. Symbols were etched into its surface, glowing faintly in the dim light.
“What do you think this is?” Alex asked, running his fingers over the carvings.
Emerald tilted its head, sniffing the archway. Suddenly, a deep voice echoed around them.
“Who dares climb the Mysterious Summit?”
Alex spun around, but there was no one in sight. The voice seemed to come from the archway itself.
“It’s us—Alex and Emerald,” Alex said, trying to sound brave. “We’re explorers.”
“To continue, you must answer this,” the voice said. The glowing symbols shifted, forming words in the air:
“I have no feet but can leave footprints.
I have no hands but can push you.
What am I?”
Alex thought hard. The wind whistled around them, almost as if it were whispering the answer.
“It’s the wind!” Alex said confidently.
The symbols glowed brighter, and the archway shimmered before dissolving into the air. The path beyond was revealed.
“Good job, Alex!” Alex said, giving himself a playful pat on the back. Emerald nudged him with its snout, clearly impressed.
They continued climbing, the wind now gentler, as if it approved of their journey.
As they neared the summit, the terrain grew even more challenging. Loose rocks shifted under their feet, and patches of snow made the ground slippery.
“We’re almost there,” Alex said, though his legs ached from the effort.
At last, they reached the summit. The clouds parted, revealing a breathtaking view. The land below stretched out like a patchwork quilt, with rivers glinting like silver threads and forests a deep green sea.
But the most amazing sight was a crystal pedestal at the mountain’s peak. Resting on it was a golden compass, glowing softly.
“What’s this?” Alex whispered, stepping closer.
As he touched the compass, a figure appeared—an ancient mountain guardian made of stone and wind. Its voice rumbled like distant thunder.
“This is the Compass of True North,” the guardian said. “It points not just to directions but to the truth within your heart.”
Alex’s eyes widened. “That’s incredible! Can we take it?”
The guardian nodded. “It is yours, but remember—truth is not always easy to follow. Use the compass wisely, and it will guide you through the hardest of paths.”
Alex carefully picked up the compass, feeling its warmth in his hands. He turned to Emerald, who chirped approvingly.
As they stood at the summit, the clouds swirled again, and the guardian faded into the mist. The mountain seemed to hum with energy, as if blessing their journey.
“We did it, Emerald,” Alex said, holding the compass up. “Another piece of magic for our collection.”
The journey down was easier, the compass glowing softly in Alex’s pocket. It seemed to guide their steps, helping them avoid loose rocks and tricky paths.
Back at their camp, Alex added the compass to his Dragon Diary, sketching its design and writing down everything they had learned.
“This compass will be so useful on our adventures,” Alex said, smiling. “I can’t wait to see where it takes us next.”
Emerald purred, curling up beside him, its green scales shimmering in the firelight.
Their journey to the Mysterious Summit was over, but Alex knew their adventure was far from complete.
