Listen to “Dragon Dreams – Episode 2 – Dragon's Flight” on Spreaker.

A week had passed since Alex found Emerald, the little green dragon, and life had turned into one big adventure. Emerald grew stronger each day, and its wings, once tiny and delicate, were now big enough to stretch wide across Alex’s room.

“You’re getting so big!” Alex exclaimed one morning as Emerald hopped around his room, flapping its wings excitedly.

Emerald let out a joyful chirp and suddenly jumped onto Alex’s bed, sending blankets flying. Alex laughed and shook his head. “I think it’s time we figure out if you can fly,” he said, a glimmer of excitement in his eyes.

The forest seemed like the perfect place for a flying lesson. Alex carefully tucked Emerald into his backpack, as they always did, and headed out. The sun was shining, and the birds were singing—a perfect day for an adventure.

Once they reached a small clearing surrounded by tall trees, Alex set Emerald down. The dragon looked around, sniffing the air, its wings twitching with anticipation.

“Alright, Emerald, let’s see what you’ve got,” Alex said, stepping back to give the dragon room.

Emerald spread its wings wide and flapped them hard. Leaves and twigs scattered everywhere as a strong gust of wind kicked up. Alex shielded his face with his hands. “Whoa! Not so strong—you’ll blow me away!” he joked.

The dragon crouched low, wiggled its tail, and launched itself into the air. For a moment, it hovered, flapping its wings furiously. But then, with a surprised chirp, it lost balance and tumbled back to the ground, landing in a pile of leaves.

Alex ran over, concerned. “Are you okay, Emerald?” he asked, brushing leaves off the dragon’s scales.

Emerald shook itself off and let out a determined snort. Alex grinned. “You’re not giving up, are you? That’s the spirit!”

After a few more tries—and a lot of giggles from Alex as Emerald landed in funny positions—the dragon finally managed to stay in the air for more than a few seconds. It flapped its wings steadily, rising higher and higher.

“You’re flying, Emerald! You’re really flying!” Alex cheered, jumping up and down.

Emerald let out a triumphant roar—well, more of a squeaky chirp—and did a little loop in the air before landing gracefully on a tree stump. Its chest puffed out with pride, and Alex ran over to give it a big hug.

“You’re amazing, Emerald,” Alex said, scratching the dragon behind its ears. “But now that you can fly, I think we need to make sure you know how to land safely. We can’t have you crashing into things.”

They spent the rest of the afternoon practicing takeoffs and landings. Emerald quickly got the hang of it, and by the time the sun began to set, the dragon was soaring through the trees like it had been flying forever.

As they walked back to the village, Alex couldn’t stop smiling. He had always dreamed of flying, and now, with Emerald, it felt like that dream wasn’t so far away.

Back at home, Alex drew pictures of Emerald flying in the air and wrote down everything he had learned about dragons in a notebook he called “The Dragon Diary.” Emerald curled up beside him, its tail wrapped around Alex’s leg.

“Today was a big day,” Alex said, yawning. “And tomorrow, who knows what we’ll discover?”

Emerald chirped softly, its eyes half-closed, as if agreeing.

That night, Alex dreamed of soaring through the skies on Emerald’s back, the wind rushing past him and the stars shining brightly above. Little did he know, this dream would soon become a reality.
