Listen to “Bumblebee – 2 – Meeting New Friends” on Spreaker.
Bumblebee had been hiding in a junkyard for days, trying his best to fix himself. He messed with wires, tried all kinds of Cybertronian repair codes, but nothing seemed to work. Stuck in his car form, he felt like a toy that no one could fix.
One bright afternoon, the quiet of the junkyard was broken by a loud, excited yell. Bumblebee’s engine made a surprised noise as a small boy climbed over a pile of old metal. The boy, with messy brown hair and curious eyes, was wearing a backwards cap and a T-shirt covered in oil stains. He looked like someone who loved fixing things.
“Whoa, cool car!” the boy shouted, running his hand over Bumblebee’s yellow paint. “But it looks like you’ve seen better days. Did someone crash you or what?”
Bumblebee made some beeping sounds, hoping the boy could understand he wasn’t just any car. But the boy, who Bumblebee would later learn was named Anthony, just tilted his head. “Maybe you need new parts? My dad’s got a garage nearby. He’s the best mechanic around!”
Bumblebee’s spark flickered with hope. Maybe this kid could help! He turned one of his antennas into a tiny hand and waved it. Anthony’s eyes grew wide.
“Did you just… move?” Anthony asked, a huge smile spreading across his face.
Bumblebee, feeling encouraged, transformed another antenna into a thumbs-up. Anthony let out a shout of joy.
“You’re a robot car! That’s amazing! Wait till I tell my friends!”
Bumblebee winced inside. He wasn’t ready for the world to know about him yet. But Anthony seemed trustworthy and really excited. So, taking a deep breath (or as close as a robot can), Bumblebee decided to reveal himself. With a quiet whir, he transformed into his robot form.
Anthony stood frozen for a second, then burst out laughing. “You look like a big bumblebee! Is that your name? Bumblebee?”
Bumblebee gave a happy beep, glad that Anthony could say his name so easily. From that moment, the two became fast friends. Anthony promised to keep Bumblebee’s secret, and Bumblebee, in return, promised to protect him.
Together, they spent hours exploring the junkyard, hunting for parts to fix Bumblebee. Anthony was great at tinkering, helping Bumblebee connect wires and replace broken pieces. Bumblebee used his strength to move heavy scrap and even lifted Anthony to reach high places.
Slowly, Bumblebee began to feel a little stronger. He still worried about where the other Autobots were and if the Decepticons would come to Earth. But with Anthony by his side, Bumblebee didn’t feel so lonely anymore.
One evening, as they lay under the stars, Bumblebee decided to scan for any signals from other Autobots. His radio crackled softly, and for the first time in days, Bumblebee heard a faint signal. He wasn’t alone on Earth! Somewhere, other Autobots were out there, and together, they would find a way to stop the Decepticons!
